We are selling a BRAMA Kobran KO40VS air classifier for the pre- and post-cleaning of various dry, free-flowing, and bulkable products. The air classifier operates using the product-air counterflow process and separates lighter components and impurities from the heavier product using an air stream.

The KO40VS model offered here is made of galvanized steel and is designed for a product-dependent capacity of 5 to 50 metric tons per hour. The intake area measures 650 × 400 mm.

Design and Operation

The product to be cleaned is continuously fed into the air classifier. Due to the inclined position of the air classifier, the product flows through the machine across the suction surface.

The suction surface consists of overlapping slats through which the suction air flows. The stair-step arrangement of the slats and the downward movement cause the product to be turned over as it passes through.

Based on the product-air counterflow process—or the resulting cross-flow principle—lighter components are carried away by the air stream. This allows, for example, dust, shell fragments, lint, and other light impurities to be separated from the heavier product.

The foreign materials carried out with the exhaust air can then be separated from the air stream using a suitable dust collector, such as a cyclone or filter.

Adjustment Options

The extraction rate and extraction area can be adjusted to the product being cleaned using the upstream and downstream adjustment dampers. The air is directed specifically through the product stream.

By properly securing the adjustment dampers, additional suction can also be applied to upstream or downstream conveying elements. This allows the air classifier to be used simultaneously for dust removal from adjacent conveying systems.

The required air volume depends on the specific product. Light products such as oats, for example, require a lower air volume, while heavier products such as corn require a higher air volume.

Airflow

Ambient air is directed through the vanes inside the air classifier and through the product stream toward the exhaust fan. The exhaust air can then be cleaned in a dust collector, such as a cyclone or filter, or discharged to the outside depending on the system configuration.

For highly abrasive products, the dust separator can be positioned upstream of the exhaust fan. With appropriate airflow routing, the exhaust air can also be reused in a recirculating air system.
