The GALA pellet dryer is a highly developed system for drying pellets that ensures continuous and reliable processing. The pellets exiting the cutting chamber of the pelletizer are conveyed by process water through pipes to an agglomerate catcher at the inlet of the centrifugal dryer. This agglomerate catcher protects the dryer by removing large accumulations of pellets before they enter the rotor.

In the rotor section of the dryer, the pellets and residual water are efficiently separated by the special design of the lifters and the centrifugal force. The pellets move between the lifters and screens as they are transported upwards in a spiral.

The water is separated by the sieves and the pellets are continuously conveyed to the upper section of the dryer where they are discharged from the resin outlet.

The drying process reduces the residual moisture of the pellets to a minimum, depending on the polymer. Final drying takes place in the upper two-thirds of the screen surface and in the pellet outlet. An external exhaust fan ensures a dry counterflow that removes the surface moisture from the pellets. The slight negative pressure generated prevents moist air from entering the room or downstream systems or condensing.

The pellets leave the dryer with a residual moisture content of just 0.05% (e.g. with LDPE).

The length of the water transport line, pellet size, shape, surface and hygroscopic properties influence the residual moisture content and the inlet temperature of the pellets.

In some cases, additional cooling, post-drying or classification may be required to achieve optimum results
